Operas in German: A Dictionary (Revised edition)

This two-volume work offers a 25-page introduction followed by A-Z listings of the works under discussion in the first volume. The second volume includes four appendices: composers, librettists, authors and sources; chronology. There is also a select bibliography, and indexes of characters and names.

The work covers all operas written to a text in German, either original or a translation of a work from another language, so we see references to operas relating to translations from other languages of writers as diverse as Shakespeare, Tolstoy and Dylan Thomas, as well as those of writers in German.
