Overview
The purpose of this assignment is to reflect on teaching for justice with technology. You begin by reading a short article, then explore your peers’ lesson ideas from our class Padlet. Finally, you write a reflection in your journal.
Follow these Steps

  1. Read “Teaching Kindness Isn’t Enough “(Turner, 2019)

  2. Explore 5 of your peers’ diversity lessons in our Padlet: [Link redacted]

  3. Write a journal addressing the prompt below

  • After reading “Teaching Kindness Isn’t Enough”:

  • Why should I not hang a “Be Kind” poster in my classroom?

  • Cite specific evidence or quotes from the “Teaching Kindness Isn’t Enough” article in your response.

  • How could different/additional phrasing make a “Be Kind” poster more justice-oriented?

After exploring 5 peers’ tech-infused social justice lessons:

  • Describe 2–5 lesson approaches/ideas that stood out to you.

  • What opportunities and challenges do you imagine experiencing when teaching lessons like this with your future students?

  • What questions or comments (if any) do you have for your professor about student-centered technologies and specifically about Teaching for Justice with Technology? If you don’t have any questions, it’s ok to skip this item.

How Will I Be Graded?

  • This is a formative assessment. It will be graded based on the course formative assessment rubric (see Figure 2) ETC 447 Rubric
