Table 9.

Summary of observations from the measured/analysed load–displacement plots

ItemObservations
Upper shaft
  • The assessed upward movement is found to generally match the measured upward movement before the loads were sustained for extended periods with creep movements of the pile less than 0.5 mm/15 min. In general, the assessment outcome from Finite Element Software was found to be in good agreement with the test interpretation results.

Lower shaft and end bearing
  • The assessed downward movement is found to closely match the measured downward movement.

  • A PLAXIS 2D model was used to extrapolate the load–settlement curve beyond the maximum sustained load of 37.73 MN with negligible creep movement which could not be practically measured within survey tolerance.

  • Permissible settlement according to AS 2159-2009 at 65 MN is ≈90 mm.

  • The estimated settlement under 65 MN is found to be within this requirement (i.e., less than 90 mm).
