| S1B | Derived native grassland with a very diverse native ground-layer |
| S2A | Open grassy woodland with a very diverse native ground-layer |
| S2B | Derived native grassland with a diverse native ground-layer (but less diverse than State 1 A) |
| S3A | Remnant grassy woodland with some mature trees present and a moderately diverse and, mainly native, ground-layer |
| S3B | A moderately diverse and mainly native grassland with a few mature remnant trees remaining |
| S4 | Grassland with a mix of native and exotic species and occasional scattered remnant trees |
| S5 | Species poor and predominantly exotic grasses and < 3 native species. Remnant trees absent |
