At the top, the White House provides overall oversight. Below it sits the National Executive Committee for Space Based Positioning, Navigation, and Timing, which includes an executive steering group co-chaired by the departments of Defence and Transportation. An advisory board sponsored by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration supports this committee. Beneath the executive committee, the National Coordination Office, hosted by the Department of Commerce, manages coordination activities. Multiple federal departments connect into this structure, including Defence, Transportation, State, Interior, Agriculture, Commerce, Homeland Security, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Supporting groups include the Civil Global Positioning System Service Interface Committee chaired by Transportation with the Coast Guard as deputy chair, the Global Positioning System International Working Group chaired by State, an Engineering Forum co-chaired by Defence and Transportation, and additional ad hoc working groups.
