FigureĀ 1
A flowchart illustrating the systematic review process for including articles on board ethnic diversity. The flowchart begins with the identification phase, where records are identified through data searches in WOS, EBSCOHOST, and Scopus databases, totaling 7,530 records. These records are then screened for titles, abstracts, and duplication, excluding 7,226 records dealing with other aspects of board diversity and 53 duplicate studies. The remaining 251 full-text articles are assessed for eligibility, excluding 72 articles not focusing on board ethnic diversity, 8 articles that cannot be assessed, 5 working papers, and 12 articles where BED is not disentangled in analysis. This leaves 154 full-text articles included based on the database search. Further screening based on the ancestry approach reduces this to 35 articles. The total sample eligible for inclusion is 189 articles. Finally, articles are excluded for quality reasons, with 37 non-ranked and 31 lower-rank articles removed, resulting in a final sample of 121 articles included based on ABDC rank B, A, A* Journals.
