Forbes, a UK manufacturer of plastic tanks, has recently completed the design and manufacture of a 150m3stripped raffinate storage tank for a chemical processing plant in Cumbria to add to the numerous Forbes tanks already on the site.

Owing to the aggressive nature of the chemical being stored at temperatures up to 80°C, materials of construction had to be selected carefully.

As high chemical resistance was required, Celmar was chosen for the inner thermoplastic shell, with external reinforcement achieved by using a high chemical and heat resistant resin for the glass fibre laminate. The dual laminate method of construction provides exceptional strength, while remaining light in weight for ease of handling and transportation.

As requested by the customer, the tank was designed and built to Category One of BS 4994:1987 The British Standard for the Design & Construction of Vessels and Tanks in Reinforced Plastics.

Standing at 8.5m tall with a diameter of 5m, the Celmar/GRP tank is reportedly among the largest one piece tanks that Forbes have ever built, in their 40 years as manufacturers of tanks and chemical plant in plastics materials.
