Righton informs us that an innovative aluminium alloy 5383 is helping the marine industry combat the problems of marine corrosion as well as giving additional benefits in overall cost savings.
Righton Marine, the newly-established specialist division of Righton Ltd, is now stocking 5383 alloy certified to DNV rules, in both plate and extrusion.
The product, developed by Pechiney Rhenalu, is reported to give marine engineers good corrosion resistance as well as fatigue resistance and significant material weight reduction over alternative alloys. In application, 5383 is said to be easily worked, with a smaller heat-affected zone and enhanced yield strength after welding.
Comments Paul Hoskison,Righton Marine product director, "5383 is an ideal material for the fast ferry, pleasure and work boat markets, giving them cost savings in fabrication, and enhanced longevity at sea".
Righton can deliver 5383 ex-stock, cut to size, nationwide, through its eight regional service centres.
