Polyurethane coating provides moisture resistant barrier for concrete

Keywords: Futura, Linings, Concrete, Waterproofing

Futura announces the development of a reformulated GEOTHANE® fast set,spray-applied polyurethane containment lining to have improved waterproofing capabilities for below grade concrete applications (Plate 1). According to John Henningsen, Futura's Marketing Director, these enhanced physical properties allow GEOTHANE to also provide resistance to chemicals.

Futura informs us that the coating is designed to be used as a high build barrier lining system for steel and concrete tanks, reservoirs, sumps and pipes. The elongation of this product (80 percent) reportedly permits it to bridge most hairline cracks that may develop. This coupled with its superior durability allow it to resist water/saltwater/chemical intrusion.

The coating system cures over a broad temperature range (believed to be as low as 35°F/2°C).

According to the manufacturer: "GEOTHANE is a two-component,hydrocarbon-modified polyurethane coating. It is a 100 percent solids, fast set,two-component elastomer. The coating can provide high build for unlimited thickness".
