USF Blastrac reports that it has launched a hand-held blast cleaning unit designed to bring all the benefits of efficient, dust-free cleaning to a wider audience.

Blastrac model 1-5HH (Plate 1) is said to be ideal for cleaning vertical and horizontal steel surfaces as well as numerous other materials.

Based on its high production models, the Blastrac 1-5HH operates using single phase electricity which drives an impeller wheel, throwing metal abrasive by centrifugal force onto the surface to be cleaned. This removes the paint, rust or concrete laitance, which is then drawn away with any dust to a filter plant or industrial vacuum cleaner.

The abrasive material is contained and recycled within the 1-5HH, which minimises the abrasive consumption and eliminates additional clean up. With a blast width of 125mm, a cleaning rate of up to 15 square metres an hour is thought to be achievable.
