When Plymouth's historic Mayflower Steps needed refurbishing and upgrading, advanced technology was called upon. These are the steps that the Pilgrim Fathers descended when boarding the Mayflower back in 1620 (Plate 5).

Plate 5 Stainless steel from Righton Ltd has been used to refurbish the historic MayflowerSteps in Plymouth

Devonport Management Ltd, traditionally a naval refit dockyard, was appointed to fabricate the Steps' balustrade, using a combination of stainless steel plate, bar and tubing with a special polished finish to optimise the material's appearance and ability to endure over a period of time both human contact and the harsh marine environment.

Devonport utilised expertise from its raw material partner Righton Ltd to obtain the special finish required for the stainless steel structure. Righton's Plymouth Service Centre not only provided the plate and bar for the bracing and tubing for the handrail but also had to supply within a tight timescale to meet the project's deadline.
