Wire delivery forms

Keywords Sandvik Steel, Wire, Environmentally friendly

Sandvik Steel has developed new, and what it believes to be environmentally friendly, coil and spool forms for delivering spring wire to its customers(Plate 2). Designed for easy handling and to maximise productivity for the customer, Sandvik coils and spools are recyclable.

Plate 2 New coil and spool forms from Sandvik Steel

Claiming to be one of the first companies in the industry to offer stainless steel spring wire delivered in compact coils, Sandvik Steel can supply one continuous wire length per coil for wire diameters from 1.2mm up to 5.00mm diameter in coils weighing up to 1,200kg. Key benefits claimed for spring makers are greater productivity through longer and consistent runs and fewer changeovers. The environmental benefit is said to be that there is no spool for return or disposal.

Designed to be loaded directly on to the payoff unit, as with conventional coils, Sandvik's compact coils are delivered shrink wrapped on a pallet in coil diameters of 650, 800 or 950mm depending on weight. The delivery form enables both clockwise and anti-clockwise decoiling requirements to be accommodated. Also new for Sandvik Steel are basket spools for delivering spring wire. Produced as a "one way spool", i.e. non-returnable, they are made from wire and as such satisfy environmental requirements to be recycled as metal scrap. Basket spools are supplied with a spool width of 90mm and diameter of 415mm and will take up to 30kgs of wire.

The third new delivery form is a conventional spool for use on established pay-off equipment and systems but with the benefit of containing up to 500kgs of wire for longer productions runs. They are designed for wire diameters of 0.70 up to 3.60mm.
