Less than 4 years after its creation by the University of Central England(UCE), Birmingham's Technology Innovation Centre (the tic) has been rated as one of the country's top ten engineering faculties by the Guardian's 2003 University Guide.
Alongside well-established engineering names such as Loughborough, Oxford,Cambridge and near neighbour Warwick, UCE's tic has been rated among the cream of UK universities when it comes to general engineering.
Chief Executive Dr Barry Henley says of the result: "This is very encouraging to the team that has worked so hard to establish the tic as a major force in engineering education and the advancement of UK industry's technological capability. We feel this accolade endorses our concept of an institution dedicated to lifelong learning, technology transfer to industry and research into specialised technologies. The tic is a clearly identifiable entity within UCE's wide-ranging activities and in its Millennium Point setting is now becoming a much sought-after engineering faculty."
The tic moved from the main UCE campus in September 2001 to occupy a major part of Birmingham's new, advanced Millennium Point development. This building forms the cornerstone of the city's development of its eastside zone as a learning and culture quarter. It is an exciting place for the tic's 2,400 students to study engineering and technology.
