MMPDS-02: Metallic Materials Properties Development and Standardization
MMPDS-02: Metallic Materials Properties Development and Standardization The Metallic Materials Properties Development and Standardization (MMPDS) – the successor of MIL- HDBK-5– is the preeminent source for aerospace component design allowable data. This handbook provides standardized design values for mechanical and physical properties and joints for metallic materials and structural elements used in aerospace structures. The design data included in the MMPDS are acceptable to US Government procuring and certification agencies.
Types of property data provided include strength (tension, compression, shear and bearing), elongation, creep and stress-rupture, fatigue, fracture toughness, physical properties, corrosion resistance and stress- corrosion cracking resistance. Many properties are given in graphical form. For example, extensive numbers of stress-strain curves and fatigue curves are provided.
Volume 1 – Introduction and Guidelines (394 pages)
Provides essential information about how the MMPDS data values are developed and how they can be interpreted and applied. NOTE: Volume 1 is always included with the purchase of any other individual volume (included in pricing).
Volume 2 – Steel and Magnesium Alloys (322 pages)
Includes data for several steels (carbon steels; low-, intermediate-, and high-alloy steels; precipitation- hardening and austenitic stainless steels) and wrought and cast magnesium alloys.
Volume 3a – 2000-6000 Series Aluminum Alloys (318 pages) & Volume 3b – 7000 Series and Cast Aluminum Alloys (275 pages)
Extensive coverage, in particular, is provided for 2000- and 7000-series wrought aluminum alloys.
Volume 4 – Titanium and Heat- Resistant Alloys (354 pages)
Provides over 150 pages on titanium alloys, with special emphasis on Ti-6Al-4V. Heat-resistant alloys covered are iron-chromium-nickel alloys and nickel-and cobalt-base superalloys.
Volume 5 – Miscellaneous Alloys & Structural Joints (246 pages)
Metals and alloys covered include beryllium, copper alloys, multiphase alloys, and aluminum alloy sheet laminates. Structural joints include mechanically fastened, welded, and brazed joints.
The CD-ROM version
The CD-ROM version (in PDF format) of the complete set contains all of the above, plus coordination meeting agendas, handouts, and minutes used to compile the book.

How is this high-value data source developed? Material property data obtained from tests by material and fastener producers, government agencies, and members of the airframe industry are submitted to MMPDS for review and analyses. Results of these analyses are submitted to the MMPDS Coordination Committee for approval, and, when they are approved, are added to the handbook.
