A brand new publication launched at the NACE International Conference offers the most comprehensive overview of copper alloys and their corrosion behaviour presented in recent years. It provides guidance on the alloys available and where they are used, what types of corrosion can occur and – most importantly – how to avoid them.

The guide has been written by Roger Francis, a leading expert in the field of corrosion who spent 17 years working with copper alloys at British Non-Ferrous,and more recently as part of a technical support function within the Weir group.

All commonly used engineering alloys can be prone to corrosion, and the best way to combat it is to have an understanding of how and why it occurs and be aware of, or develop, practical measures to avoid it.

Problems can be avoided by choosing the appropriate alloy for the application, employing correct welding, heat treatment and fabrication techniques for components, and designing the system to avoid corrosion initiation and staying within correct operating conditions. This book helps to educate engineers and operators to understand not only the good reasons for using different copper alloys, but also their operating limits so that they can achieve best performance along with their expectations.

This book collects a wealth of previously unpublished data as well as information from obscure conferences and journals to offer a comprehensive overview of the topic. There are chapters introducing the different types of copper alloys commonly used in engineering, and also discussing the nature of the protective films on different alloys and how they are believed to confer protection.
