For hundreds of years wood has been the traditional material for casks and vessels for holding beer: now it is being replaced by other materials, including aluminium, and the article below briefly outlines the method of manufacture by Alumasc Ltd. of one type of such cask. In particular, it shows how the internal and external surfaces are treated to avoid corrosion by both beer and the atmosphere.
