On December 6, 1964, the Press were shown Europe's largest plant for the degassing of steel, which is now in production at the Stocksbridge, Sheffield, works of Samuel Fox Ltd. This plant, which will accept 110‐ton heats of open and semi‐skilled steels, is also the first of its kind in Europe to use magnetic induction for stirring the steel while under vacuum. The plant was supplied by Vacuum Industrial Applications Ltd., its design being based on that of their U S associates, the F. J. Stokes Corporation.
