Long life on the Dead Sea. The Dead Sea Scrolls Expedition faced severe corrosion hazards in addition to their literary‐archaeological problems when the metal surfaces and electrical circuits of their outboard motors were exposed to local conditions of extreme salinity and heavy condensation. The solution (to corrosion) was found in a silicone grease material Ambersil MS4, which was applied by aerosol to the metal surfaces and electrical circuits and succeeded in preserving these for the duration of the expedition.
