PROBLEM—An all‐welded steel pipeline, 6. in. diam and 25 miles long, has been buried for 10 years. Its route connects two pumping stations on the outskirts of two small towns and between it traverses a predominantly rural area. Leaks have been reported and patched at three points on the line and steps must be taken to eliminate any future possible leaks.
