ABATTOIRS Success of an epoxide protective system. The steelwork of an abattoir presents an important corrosion problem because of the large amount of water and the highly humid atmosphere in the building combined with such volatile corrosive materials as ammonia and similar nitrogenous fumes arising from animal excreta, urine, etc. These contaminants of the atmosphere and of water provide peculiarly aggressive conditions and when it is considered that abattoirs are continually in use and have little chance to dry out, it will be appreciated that much is asked of the protective systems.
