New name for polypropylene film. ICI's balanced biaxially oriented polypropylene film is now being sold under the trade name Propafilm. This move emphasises the established position of this material for packaging by distinguishing the product from ICI propylene polymers and copolymers, which are sold under the trade name Propathene. This film has been adopted by many leading biscuit manufacturers, including McVitie & Price, Huntley & Palmers, Jacobs and Meredith & Drew, and by a leading grocery chain for wrapping cheese, cooked meats and bacon. Gibbs Proprietary Products bundle‐wrap toothpaste cartons with Propafilm, whilst other applications include clear‐face paper‐backed bags and Propafilm/polyethylene laminates. Cigarette manufacturers are beginning to employ this material for overwrapping cigarette cartons. It is available in three grades: ‘C’—coated heat sealable; ‘O’—uncoated; ‘S’—shrinkable.
