Paint coatings and the protection of chemical plant and structural steelwork

IN SPITE of the continual growth in the use of corrosion‐resistant metals, alloys and structural resins to combat corrosion problems in chemical plant and structural steelwork in general, paint coatings are still by far the most widely used form of protection against corrosion attack. This is due not only to the inherent versatility of paint, particularly important in maintenance programmes, but also to the ability of the paint chemist to tailor a paint's properties by the choice of resins and pigments to meet virtually any given corrosion problem.
