The value of sprayed aluminium for the protection of iron and steel is now widely recognised in the building industry. It has also been shown that a high degree of protection is afforded by hot dip aluminised coatings, which have excellent resistance to both corrosion and heat. In 1950, the United States consumed 1,000 tons of aluminium in hot dip aluminising, and it is probable that consumption is now on a considerably greater scale. The following is an appraisal of this form of coating with reference to experimental work that has been carried out in this country.
