The majority of industrial cooling systems involve the installation of cooling towers; the effects of recirculating water in this way include saturation with dissolved oxygen, and an increase in the mineral salt content. Both of these will increase corrosivity to metals with which the water is in contact. In addition, process leaks may have drastic effects on corrosion rates.
