Protection in Metal Spraying. A completely new type of protective helmet for use in the metal‐spraying industry has recently been introduced. Known as the Plus Pressure helmet, it offers a wide range of unique features. The preliminary function of the helmet is to provide fresh, clean air to an operator, otherwise exposed to the hazard of dust and fumes present, when spraying toxic materials. Filtered air is supplied to the mask through a large‐bore, lightweight hose to a dual‐connection distribution box, developed to keep the internal air noise to a minimum. A novel feature is a quick‐release connection in the main air‐supply line which, combined with a spring‐loaded flap valve, enables the operator to disconnect himself from his air supply during ‘down periods’ and breathe freely without removing the helmet. Such operations as changing oxygen or acetylene cylinders, moving the workpiece, etc., can be carried out with the minimum of effort and movement is not limited to, or hindered by, the air‐supply line.
