Polyvinyl chloride v. corrosion The advantages of PVC over metals can be quickly summarised. It is characterised by outstanding resistance to both atmospheric and chemical corrosion. It is a lightweight—one fifth that of mild steel and one half that of aluminium. It can be worked by all the usual operations. It may be hot‐gas welded at 280 to 300°C. to give joints almost as strong as the material itself. Ducting and piping made from it needs neither painting nor other maintenance.
