AN APPROACH TO THE CORROSION PROBLEM

Corrosion is both costly to mankind and very damaging to his structures. It is estimated that the annual cost of corrosion in the U.S. alone is rapidly approaching $10 billion—and the annual cost to the world would be at least double this figure. Therefore, our interest in combating this phenomenon should be and is, partly, to save money, but also to save lives, prolong the operation of existing equipment, conserve material difficult to replace, and avoid the many inconveniences which arise from the unexpected failure of metal parts through corrosive action.
