This article deals with the cathodic protection requirements of small vessels—coastal shipping, fishing vessels, tugs, lighters and yachts. The story of the development of suitable techniques for such craft is told and it is shown that cathodic protection is not the prerogative of big ships, nor even of steel ships; it has something to offer to every class of ship or boat from the largest down to the very smallest, whether built of steel or wood.
