The attack of copper and copper alloys by aqueous ammonia solutions is rapid in the presence of air, but it is inhibited by small amounts of glucose and other reducing sugars. Non‐reducing sugars, such as sucrose and the sugar alcohols also have inhibiting action although it is not so powerful. These are the topics with which the authors are here concerned. They also refer to the rate of attack of aluminium by ammonia and the acceleration of this attack in the presence of glucose. This, they say, is not so in the case of zinc, where the presence of glucose does not affect this rate.
