Anti-corrosion specialists Corrocoat has completed a contract worth £50,000 on behalf of Derby-based Prospect Engineering Ltd. The project called for the application of protective linings to both large and small bore pipework destined for installation within the cooling water systems at Zhenhai power station in the People's Republic of China.
Zhenhai is a new power station, currently under construction by Kvaerner Energy Ltd in China's Zhejiang province. The steam turbine package for the power station has been managed by GEC Alsthom.
The internals of the pipework for Zhenhai's steam turbine condenser cooling water systems have been protected using Corrocoat's polyglass material, a polyester acrylic co-polymer loaded with flake glass.
Polyglass was developed to provide long-term protection in aqueous environments, and has proved particularly effective in seawater immersion applications as well as medium duty chemical service. The pipework for Zhenhai ranged from internal diameters of 500mm up to 1,800mm.
Pipe externals were also grit-blasted and primed by Corrocoat before delivery back to Prospect Engineering for onward shipment to China.
