Increasing worldwide demand for electrical power, combined with efforts to improve thermal efficiency and hence reduce damaging CO₂ emissions, continue to challenge material suppliers to develop creep-resisting alloys to operate at ever-increasing temperatures and pressures.

Metrode Products Ltd,based in the UK, has paralleled these developments with a complete range of welding consumables to match modified 9CrMo steels (P91/T91 grades). These consumables are in addition to the range of 1, 2, 5 and 9CrMo consumables which have been widely used in the power generation and petrochemical industries for many years.

The available range of 9CrMo (mod) consumables is summarised in Table I.]

Development work is continuing on the next generation of CrMo consumables, some of which contain increased levels of chromium and/or additions of tungsten and cobalt for further improved performance.
