Non-polluting passivation system

Keywords Chemetall,Environmentally friendly, Passivation

Now available in the UK is a new water-based passivating system for zinc electroplate from Chemetall that dries with a silver finish. Known as Lanthane 300, it is stated to be free of hexavalent chrome and other heavy metals, and is based on trivalent chrome and mineral corrosion inhibitors. It is said to give very high corrosion resistance, even after heating for several hours at 150°C. It will withstand 350 hours salt spray before the onset of white rust.

Lanthane 300 is a two-stage dip process, with a water rinse in between, followed by drying. Total immersion time is 60-90 seconds at a temperature of 60-65°C.

Successful production trials have already been carried out by several Continental automotive component manufacturers on both rack and barrel plants. They have included Lanthane treatment of the car locks for Fiat; safety parts for Mercedes gear boxes; and hoses for Opel.
