Denso Covercoat system protects Transco pipeline

Transco has recently replaced a 400m length of pipeline that feeds gas over the River Dearne at Barnsley to a gas holder station.

To protect the new 18in pipeline Transco chose Winn & Coales Covercoat system. This consisted of Hi-Tack primer, followed by Hi-Tack tape, then an overwrap of Denso reinforced bitumen, followed by a top coat of Protal two-pack epoxy. The system is surface tolerant, with only hand cleaning required, and gives a controlled thickness of protection throughout the application. The finished job is virtually maintenance free and designed to give long-term protection.

All the work was carried out by contractors Stanningley Engineering Ltd, under Transco supervision.
