NACE International, The Corrosion Society, announces an upcoming TechEdge Education Program on the Failure and Fatigue of Fasteners. The TechEdge will be offered on Sunday, April 25, 1999 in San Antonio, Texas at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
Often overlooked, the fastener is one of the most important components determining the success of engineered structures. Causes of fastener failure include fatigue, embrittlement, and corrosion due to mechanical joints, improper manufacturing, materials selection, and installation.
The Failure and Fatigue of Fasteners TechEdge will teach participants about increasing the life of a structure with the selection of the correct type of fasteners and identifying and preventing failures through inspection and maintenance.
Program topics include the materials and mechanical properties of fasteners, types of loading and stress occurrence, fatigue considerations, types and sources of failures, methods of manufacturing, quality assurance for fastener integrity, and the effects of government regulations. Participants will learn real-world solutions from case studies presented by experts in the field of corrosion technology.
Advance registration fees for the Failure and Fatigue of Fasteners TechEdge, after March 1, are $230 for NACE members and $300 for nonmembers.
The Failure and Fatigue of Fasteners TechEdge Program will be held in conjunction with the NACE Annual Conference and Exhibition, CORROSION/99. The annual conference will offer a total of 35 technical symposia, many of which will address metallic and nonmetallic materials of construction in a variety of environments and industrial applications.
NACE's conference also offers the world's largest corrosion show, NACExpo/99. The expo features 300 companies exhibiting corrosion control products and services including protective coatings and linings, materials of construction, engineering and inspection technologies, and cathodic protection. In all, more than 6,500 professionals will attend CORROSION/99 from diverse industries to further the common goal of advancing the science of corrosion technology.
