Entry-level plasma spray system

Keywords Coatings, Sulzer Metco, Thermal spray

Sulzer Metco has launched a new system for thermally spraying metal coatings on to components by the plasma spray method. This is reported to be a compact and affordable entry-level system, brandnamed ValuPlaz, designed for ease of use in general workshops.

The heart of the system is said to be a new computerized control console: the user simply sets the required flow of primary and secondary gases, the spray gun voltage and amperage, according to the application, then presses the start button. The controller then takes over, automatically controlling the equipment feeding metal powder, gases and cooling water, temperature and other parameters. A fault light and audible alarm occurs if any parameter goes outside of set limits for some reason. The flow meters and gas valve systems are of high precision.

The ValuPlaz is capable of working with a variety of existing Sulzer Metco plasma spray guns or stand alone powder feeders; it offers a choice of 40kW or 80kW power; and primary gas can be argon or nitrogen, while the secondary gas can be hydrogen or helium. All equipment conforms with CE standards.

Optional extras include a cart for easy movement of the controller and an operator's safety kit (ear protectors, face shield, etc.)
