Corus Tubes' Energy Business recently announced the award of a $75 million pipeline supply project from The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC).

Corus has signed a contract with SPDC for the supply of large diameter finepipe and associated products for incorporation into the Offshore Gas Gathering System (OGGS), off Nigeria.

The contract was won in a competition with the world's most highly renowned pipe suppliers. It consists of 265 000 meters of 813mm diameter pipe, together with a range of heavy wall slug- catcher pipes and hot induction bends, produced under subcontract by Corus' quality approved partner companies. The pipe will be manufactured at Corus Tubes' state of the art 42" Pipe MR in Hartlepool,England. In total there are 103 000 tonnes of 813mm pipe with wall thicknesses from 11.4 to 30.8mm.

The pipeline will be constructed in 2002 as part of SPDC's Multi Billion Dollar plans to eliminate gas flaring in Nigeria by the year 2008.

This work follows hard on the heels of a number of other high profile pipeline projects for Corus Tubes such as the Bluestream trans-Black Sea gas line and the Banjo- Seahawk project in the Gulf of Mexico. These show Corus Tubes expanding its operations from Europe to the developing oil and gas arenas of the Gulf of Mexico and the North & West of Africa.

It is expected that this high profile contract for SPDC will pave the way for Corus, with its Nigerian Affiliates, Nissho Iwai Nigeria Limited, to secure other contracts in Nigeria and West Africa.
