Premier Coatings' Premseal 100 blue waterproof membrane was specified for a major refurbishment project recently completed for Portsmouth Water's Nelson Reservoir (Plate 1). The Premseal 100 membrane and ancillary products were applied to the roof and sides of the 6,000m2 reservoir by local contractors, Solent Excavations Ltd. The refurbishment was conducted in two phases, so that Portsmouth Water were able to keep one chamber of the reservoir active throughout the project. The total capacity of the Nelson Reservoir is 44.6M litres.
Premier Coatings Ltd also supplied pre-cut membrane sections, to give added protection to corner rebates and edges, as well as Premseal protection boards. These bituminous-based 2.6m2 boards prevent sharp angled grit and stones in the backfill from puncturing the membrane. The protection boards are butt-jointed with board tape applied over the joints.

Premseal 100 is a self-adhesive sheet membrane constructed from an oriented cross-laminated high density polyethylene sheet and a bitumen-polymer adhesive compound. The product is a tough, durable, self-adhesive sheet with an overall thickness of 1.5mm. A feature, said to be unique to Premier Coatings, is the selvage. This enables a fast and secure seal on all side edge laps.
Premseal 100 is approved by the Water Research Council and is UK WFBS-listed for use in potable water situations.
Premseal 100's primary use is for internal and external tanking to prevent the ingress of water and water-borne aggressive salts such as chlorides and sulphates penetrating concrete structures. Premseal 100 has BBA-certification and, being water- and vapour-resistant, it has many waterproofing applications in the construction industry.
