Disc springs, manufactured by Bauer Springs Ltd, can provide dependable solutions to industrial problems, while their spring pack assemblies offer pre-engineered answers for a wide range of energy storage requirements (Plate 3).
These products are manufactured in accordance with DIN2093 Groups 1, 2 and 3 ranges A, B and C covering high, medium or low spring force capacity. They offer considerable advantages over conventional wire wound compression springs, and these precision products should not be confused with Belleville washers which cannot supply the same degree of engineering performance and repeatability.

Disc springs combine high energy storage capacity with low space requirement and uniform annular loading. They can provide linear or non-linear spring loadings with their unique ability to combine high or low forces with either high or low deflection rates. All of these attributes, and more, from single component assemblies whose non-tangle features (when compared to wire wound springs) make them ideal for automatic assembly procedures.
Disc springs conforming to DIN2093 can be supplied covering individual force rates from 117 N to 383 KN at 75 per cent deflection. Sizes within Group 1 of the standard cover outside diameters from 6 to 40 mm, and material thicknesses up to 1.25 mm. Group 2 covers sizes from 20 to 200 mm outside diameter and materials between 1.25 and 6 mm thickness. Group 3 covers 70-250 mm outside diameter with materials covering the range of 3.8-16 mm. All standard sizes within these ranges can be manufactured, together with any other non-standard sizes required to meet customers own specifications.
Disc spring packs can also be supplied to meet special requirements, which can include operation at elevated temperatures up to 800°C. Where corrosion resistance is also a requirement, nickel-based alloys or other specialised materials can be used for manufacture, including non-magnetic metals.
The company also offer advice on the design and application of disc spring products, to ensure that the most economic and effective solutions can be made available.
