A profile of the Czech and Slovak Paint Industries

Information Research (IRL) has published a new study for the Central European region in A Profile of the Czech and Slovak Paint Industries. This new title examines the paint markets of the Czech and Slovak Republics in a single volume.

These are two relatively small paint markets, Czech demand being at about 95,000 tonnes and Slovak demand at about 60,000 tonnes. The decorative sector offers fairly low-growth prospects in both republics, but in the Slovak Republic, there has been a tendency to greater DIY expenditure on the part of the general public; the construction sector is also expecting an upturn in Slovakia. Across the two republics, the decorative coatings market has been carefully targeted by acquisition in recent years, with companies preferring to“buy-in” to secure market share through established names, rather than investing directly in new plant construction and trying to convince the consumers of the merits of hitherto unknown brands. Paint imports from key locations such as Germany, Italy and Austria are encroaching more and more upon the market, to the detriment of local production and, as a result, subsequent paint exports.

Growth prospects are modest overall; in both cases, growth is expected to arrive through investment in the automotive sector, which will have positive consequences for some areas of industrial coatings supply such as OEM, powder and plastic finishing, although these areas of growing demand are not likely to be enjoyed by local producers. Instead, they will be fulfilled through imports from multinationals and German specialists.

A Profile of the Czech and Slovak Paint Industries provides an overview of paint supplies in the two countries, outlining the major manufacturers and sources of paint imports, together with an overview of the paint market on a sector-by-sector basis (ten sectors are covered in the Czech Republic and nine for the Slovak Republic). All of this information is supported by background data, end-user industry data, a five-year market forecast to 2011 and predicted annual growth rates obtained from industry. The report, which in its 106 pages contains 72 tables and up-to-date directories of paintmakers in both countries, is now available from IRL at a cost of 2,000.

Sections from the report, priced individually, will soon be available to purchase online at IRL's web site: www.informationresearch.co.uk
