WHEN a new branch of technology emerges as an offshoot of existing practice, its results are first described in the language of the parent subject, but later, as it grows in importance, a specialized jargon becomes current. Often, as part of this vocabulary, conventional diagrams are evolved to impart information in a concise and convenient manner. The application of hydraulic actuation to aircraft mechanisms is no exception to this rule.
