AMONG the interesting features of the Handlcy Page Victor revealed in the official photographs are what appear to be leading‐edge flaps of considerable span. It can be seen (FIG. 1) that the leading edge of the flap in the down position docs not extend appreciably further forward than when it is in the normal flight position, as represented by the adjacent portion of main wing structure. Thus it would seem that these surfaces are not slats (which provide a slot between themselves and the wing) and in considering their purposes certain published reports of research at the R.A.E. are interesting.
