In this manual of current hovercraft practice, the authors have produced a volume containing all the basic information required for a study of the factors relating to internal aerodynamics, drag, propulsion, performance, controls and stability, and structural design, as well as a good many of the problems likely to arise in the consideration of these principles and parameters. The intention is to detail the progress made in these various fields up to the present time and the first part of the book includes a survey of hovercraft economics and the evaluation of operating costs. The development of prime movers is detailed with observations on the adaptations of existing engines which up to now have been all that are available to the designer of these vehicles, with the consequent restrictions imposed. The whole work is characterised by a practical approach in which the mathematical analysis presented is at no time more complex than is strictly necessary for the understanding of the subject. Pertinent historical facts are also included of the various craft produced and their main characteristics.
