At a symposium held at the Royal Aeronautical Society, the opening speaker from KLM posed the question whether in the traditional way of aircraft design being synonymous with aerodynamics, structures and thrust, other disciplines are being under‐rated. Less than optimum performance seems apparent in, for example, the application of the human sciences. The operator and the environment in which he is working need further study. Flight deck warning and caution systems need to be reviewed as well as displays, seats, and a general review of the layout.
