Flight Management Computer Systems (FMCS) Available to Purchase

Recently given before the Royal Aeronautical Society by A. L. Blackman of Smiths Industries, this paper began by looking at the overall picture of such systems which can possess a software package as large as anything flying today. The FMCS involves expertise in many fields including operational procedures and two‐crew certification, design of computers, non‐volatile memory and software and performance algorithms in both the horizontal and vertical planes. Input/output interfaces are also involved as well as flight simulator software, built‐in test design, maintenance interfaces and many other features.
