Aeroplane builders, component suppliers and other manufacturers who rely on Ometron's VPI 4000 vibrometer to ensure they are keeping rattles, rumbles and irritating noises out of their products will be doubly pleased with the latest DuoScan fast Fouriertransform (FFT) interface for the laser Doppler instrument, claims the manufacturer.
As the name suggests,DuoScan now allows the user two opportunities to define the frequencies of interest. Previously users had to define the frequencies in advance of the scan, based on sampling data from the structure. Missing out one frequency at the start would mean that the whole scan would need to be repeated. DuoScan now allows the user not only to chose the frequencies before scanning, but also to change and add frequencies after the scan is complete.
The DuoScan software retains the advantage of real-time data display during scanning, so that the pattern from the door panel, steering wheel assembly or other vibrating component can be monitored live. However, full frequency response function (FRF)data are stored in a compact binary form during scanning, allowing the user to alter the frequencies of specific modes and create new modes based on the stored data.
The powerful post-processing software allows the user to view the FRF associated with any point on any image simply by pointing with the mouse. A special window shows the FRF, complete with markers indicating the frequencies of the current images. Clicking on the FRF then allows change of any of the frequencies, or creation of a new image at a new frequency, simply by moving the markers.
The images created with DuoScan are identical to those produced by the current software and can be exported or used in reports. The data can also be converted to contour plots and overlaid on images of the scanned object, gathered using the optional colour CCD camera.
DuoScan is being supplied as standard with new scanning vibrometer systems, and is available as an upgrade to current users of VPI 4000 FFT systems.
