Jeppesen unveils a new datawriter product which reportedly, will retrieve and load digital navigation information to data cards used by Trimble, Garmin, Magellan and Northstar GPS units. The datawriter will give customers the power to download digital information and transfer those data to a data card.
The datawriter will also allow customers to update their data cards at any time, anywhere, simply by using a laptop PC and a telephone connection to the Internet. Customers with desktop PCs may purchase a serial port adapter which will link the datawriter to their personal computer.
Customers will have the option to purchase the datawriter, bundled with a 28-day Jeppesen NavData subscription service, for one low price. After the first year of the service, customers will see the savings when their current subscription price is cut in half. The datawriter will also lower the expenses involved with sending NavData cards through the mail and allow Jeppesen to reduce the overall cost of its navigation services. Customers will no longer need to return old cards or wait for new ones when their information becomes outdated.
With a simple and intuitive user interface, the datawriter will be compatible with Windows 3.1,Windows 95 and Windows 98 operating platforms. Future plans for the datawriter include the creation of a Windows CE version for palm-top computers.
