First European licence for aircraft engineer

Aircraft engineer Jon Harris recently became the first UK holder of a new European licence awarded by the Civil Aviation Authority. The licence is recognised in 30 other European countries and will become the industry standard licence for aircraft engineers.

Known as JAR-66, it replaces individual domestic qualifications and is recognised by the Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) of which the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is a leading member.

Head of Engineer Licensing at the CAA, Jim McKenna, presented Jon Harris with his licence at the Gatwick headquarters of the CAA's Safety Regulation Group.
