Users of materials-testing machines can now reportedly make a visual record of specimen behaviour in real time with new software from Zwick Roell Group.

Believed to be the first of its kind, Zwick's "video capture" package controls a video camera to film the physical reaction of the specimen at significant points in the test sequence. It can be incorporated in or retrofitted to any of the company's materials-testing machines using Zwick software to video any test routine, whether it is compression, impact, tensile, flexure, shear, adhesion, etc.

Zwick says that the clear visual evidence is particularly valuable when specimen behaviour is difficult to predict. The unequivocal pictures also resolve language barriers in the comprehension of test reports.

The system is driven by Zwick's advanced "textXpert"materials-testing software, which operates the camera synchronously with the recording of load, extension and time. The number of images can be specified to save disk space if necessary.

Simultaneously, the images appear on a monitor along with related curves and test data.
