Coventry University forms relationship with the Emirates Aviation College

The Department of Systems Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Computing has been the major driving force behind this partnership, which will give students the opportunity to study at both establishments.

Emirates Aviation College – Aerospace and Academic Studies – was established in 1991 and has since expanded and diversified. In September 2001,the College was merged with Emirates to form the “Academic Wing” of the Emirates Group.

This relationship allows students to study at EAC for a higher national diploma and then continue their studies to obtain a BEng (Honours) Degree from Coventry University. This one- year “top-up programme” is taught at the EAC campus and delivered by EAC faculty members.

There are three one-year degree programmes are being offered.

Chris Bland, Head of Systems Engineering at Coventry University, said:“There have been several visits by staff at each institution to each other and we anticipate a rapid growth in joint working. We are also in discussions to see if we can unite on areas of common research as well as developing new courses. This would further enhance our working relationship.”

Coventry University provides a range of courses in aerospace engineering. It has well equipped laboratory facilities that include wind tunnels, a helicopter and a harrier jet.

Christopher Bland added: “Our graduates are particularly respected by industry as they are able to contribute quickly to industrial needs. As a result, we have graduates in many of the leading aircraft design companies as well as aircraft component manufacturing industries, airport operators and the armed services.”
