PROGRESS and developments in the design of poppet valves, for aero‐engines in particular, has been very fast during recent years; research is constantly being made, both in design and production. Alloys, heat treatments and constructional features have all been developed with a view to greater efficiency in the engine and machining methods are continually scrutinized in an endeavour to improve performance and to lower production costs.
